Week 36 – 7 Ways To Simplify Your life

We’ve all had those days when the mountain of things that need doing seems insurmountable.  We go to bed in the evening feeling exhausted and wondering how we keep getting ourselves into these situations of constant over-booking and over-planning.  Then the guilt hits.  We feel guilty that we’re not the perfect spouse; that we don’t spend enough quality time with our children, discount that we neglect friendships.  We lament that we don’t have time to do fun things any more.

More often than not, troche these situations occur because we jam our days with too many things and create unrealistic plans which make us feel as if we’re on an endless treadmill. There are ways to get off that treadmill, sildenafil to regain balance and find more joy in life. To make sure that simplifying your life doesn’t become yet another thing to add to an already too long list, take small steps to make meaningful changes that will simplify your life.

  1. Start by getting a really cool day planner, one that reflects your personality.  If you really love it, you’ll be more inclined to use it.
  2. Get in the habit of using your day planner to track all your activities, appointments, to-do’s and everything else that goes on in your life that needs tracking. This will allow you to see all that is on your plate and help you make smart decisions about what gets done on any particular day.
  3. Practice saying no to small things that are not priority in your life.  If you can say no to at least one thing each day, you’ll quickly see a big change in how you feel.
  4. Make time for yourself first thing in the morning, even if it’s only for 10-15 minutes.  This will give you time to take a deep breath and start your day on the right foot.  You can review what’s in your day planner and if decide if there are things on that list that need to be moved or removed.
  5. In the evening, take a few minutes (10-15 minutes) to recognize all that you’ve accomplished that day.  Applaud yourself for all that got done and simply move the things that didn’t get done to another day.  You’ll soon find that you’ve create a new habit of focusing your day on the most important things that need to get done.
  6. Build one relaxing activity into your day, an activity you love and one that will let you unwind and decompress. Even 10-15 minutes will make a big difference.  It could be a walk which doubles as exercise, enjoying a cup of coffee, listening to your favourite music or any other activity that give you great pleasure.
  7. Make time for your family and make that time a non-negotiable appointment in your day planner.  The connection and support your get from your family will make the rest easier to tackle.  You can ask them for help and delegate some of the things that need doing so you can mark them off your list.

These small steps will help you regain control over your long to-do list. But you may also have to face the harsh reality that you can’t have it all, do it all and still keep smiling.  Simplifying your life does not mean giving up on your dreams and what’s important to you, but it will help you focus on what’s most important.
